Our Flow of the Day

After 12 days of school, we are gettig into the flow of our day.
Here's a review.
Some pictures are from today; others are pictures on' this years visual schedule.

Arrival

Today's creation during arrival time.

Morning Gathering

Each morning gathering has the same four things.
We Unite ...
by singing one song which reminds us of Jesus and another one to help us greet our school family.
We Disengage Stress ...
by taking deep breaths and reminding ourselves to listen.
We Connect ...
by doing what is called an "I Love You Ritual," which is some sort of poem we do with a partner.
We Cheer our Commitment for the Day ...
Everyday!
We keep each other safe!
Everyday!
We share God's love!
Everyday!

Choice Time

A vital segment of our day!
The following are just a few examples of the children engaging their imagination and creativity.

Outside Time

We love, love, love our outside time!
This is from our first Thursday together!
Today the children had a wonderful time playing with their friends and for some seeing their brothers or sister from Mrs. Douglas' class.

Jesus Time

We have Jesus time four days a week and chapel one day a week.
Today we danced and sang some fun Jesus songs.

Clean Up Time

For clean up time the children receive a small card with a picture on it. The card is tucked inside a name badge. They look at the picture and clean up just those items. At the end of the day the children said it helped make clean up time more fun. I call that a win!!

Small Group or Whole Group Time

During these first few days of school, we have been having mainly whole group activities, like this one when we put the parakeet house together.
In September we will break into two smaller groups. During these times, the children will practice various preschool skills, like letter writing and mathmatical experiences.

Lunch Time

Story Time

Right after lunch, we read stories while children use the bathroom.

Naptime

They are doing great during this time of day!

Look at Books

Currently that is what we are doing.
Another choice as the year progresses will be drawing in their journals.

Goodbye!

Before we leave, we gather one more time on our gathering rug.
We review our day, say a prayer, and sing our good-bye song.

Chapel and An Investigation

Morning Activities

We had a busy group this morning!

Chapel

Miss Bethany, our director of Children's Ministry, led chapel today.
She recently climbed to the top of one of the 14,000 feet peaks in the Rocky Mountain National Forest. She shared the beauty of God's creation of stars.
She shared that one of the constellations is in the shape of a cross.
Even the stars proclaim Jesus as our Savior!
We also thanked her for her service here at Zion.
We are so grateful for her joy in serving children and families.
She is moving to Indiana to serve at Camp Lutherhaven next week.

Choice Time

It started with a cross.
Then the children kept adding materials
So beautiful! So fun!

Wood cookies were added to our sand table this week.
New ideas are emerging.

An Investigation

First someone spotted one little pumpkin on our playground.
Then, we wonder if anymore pumpkins were growing.
So we walked around looking for pumpkin vines.
We found one more when we search on the other side of the fence by the "big kid" playground.

Splat!

Would you like some mud soup?
Well, not really.
And then it went "Splat!"

Enjoying Being Together

Morning Activities

Morning Gathering

Singing our gathering song!

This is the day. This is the day
That the Lord has made. That the Lord has made.
We will rejoice. We will rejoice.
And be glad in it. And be glad in it.

This is the day
That the Lord has made.
We will rejoice
And be glad in it.

This is the day. This is the day
That the Lord has made.

Drawing Our Families
They are doing such great work!

Outside Time

They loved playing outside today!
They played hide 'n seek. Some of the children loved cleaning with the big sponges.

Parakeet News

We added some more food dishes to the parakeet house and litter on the bottom of the house. This litter is different from kitty litter; it's made out of wood pieces.
Hopefully, we will have parakeets in one week.

This is the Day!

This is the day!

Today our gathering time began with this song.

This is the day. This is the day
That the Lord has made. That the Lord has made.
We will rejoice. We will rejoice.
And be glad in it. And be glad in it.

This is the day
That the Lord has made.
We will rejoice
And be glad in it.

This is the day. This is the day
That the Lord has made.

Choice Time

A little glimpse into just some of the action during choice time.
They are a busy group of explorers!

During this time, some children drew pictures of their families. Their drawings are now on the opposite side of their family photo. They are really thinking about the members of their family as they draw.

Rainboots!

It sure was great to have our rainboots today.
We could enjoy playing outside after the rainy morning.

Jesus Time

Creation Cheer!

God made the light!
Go-o-o-o, God!
God made the water!
Go-o-o-o, God!
God made the dry land and all the plants, flowers and trees!
Go-o-o-o, God!
God made the sun, moon, and stars!
Go-o-o-o, God!
God made the birds and fish!
Go-o-o-o, God!
God made the animals and people!
Go-o-o-o, God!
God said, "Enjoy my creation!"
Go-o-o-o, God!

Parakeet Conversations

We talked more about what our parakeets will need.
We looked at Varietees (a bird store) website and noticed lots of bird toys.
Our parakeets will need lots of toys we learned.
We could like for them to have a quiet place and we noticed some tents.
We have quite a list!

Being Safe

Fire Drill

Practicing...

so we are safe.
During our morning gathering time, we talked about what to do in case of a fire.
We need to walk to the door and leave our building as soon as possible.
Today we didn't use the loud alarm. Instead, Mrs. Haun came to the door and said, "Fire! Fire!"
The children did a great job being safe and following the safety procedures.
When we came inside, we talked more about being safe.
We know ...
We need to always walk and keep our feet on the ground.
We don't go on the street. We stay on the sidewalk.
Some children also mentioned about being safe during a tornado or "if a bad person is here."
Then we talked about how our bathroom is a safe place for us to be.
Mrs. Lohman reminded them that her job is to keep them safe and their job is to help keep us safe.

Beautiful Work

Awesome to see them reading to the stuffed animals!

What a lovely display!

The recipe books have been quite popular so far!

Student Perspectivie

Teamwork!

Jesus Time

We reviewed the story of God creating our world.
We talked about how everything He created is a wonderful gift to us.

Favorite Things

We haven't started small group time, but instead have been doing a short whole group meeting.
Today we did a pattern chant. During this activity, everyone shared their favorite fruit and favorite animal.
