Our Year in Review - It's November!

 Remembering Our Year

Some of our morning activities were reminiscent of our November mornings. Letters were out on the round table to encourage letter writing. Letters with rocks were out on the middle table. At the art table children drew leaves. A Playmobile house at the blue rug was a new addition.

Chapel

The children were very respectful as we entered chapel today. A family gathered in the Welcome Center was remembering a loved one who had died. Before chapel, we talked about how it was a happy/sad day for this family. We were quiet and prayful as we entered the sanctuary.

During chapel, we celebrated the baptism of one of our preschoolers.

Code-a-pillar

Mrs. Helmkamp explained how the Code-a-pillar works. The Code-a-Pillar is a robot that needs codes to know which way to move. During our free choice time, small groups were able to program the Code-a-pillar to move from one spot to another. 

Remembering November

We acted out The Five Little Leaves poem.

We read The Thank You Book by Mo Willems and If You're Angry and You Know It by Cecily Kaiser.

We missed having the chicks in our room.

Good-bye, Chicks!

They are growing fast!

They moved to a new home for the day, one of our wading pools.

The children were able to easily reach inside, touch the chicks, and try to feed them. Some children were lucky enough to pick one up. They were moving much faster today and flapping their wings.

When we picked them up, they cheeped very loudly letting us know they preferred running around on their own.

They are starting to grow wing feathers.

Look how long this one is!

Before nap, we looked at them and held them one last time. We sang our good-bye song to them. During nap, they moved to Miss Bevirt's third grade class.

Their New Home

They made it safely to their new home, where they'll stay until they're big enough to go to the farm. They have the same box and the feather duster. They now have a much needed feeder and water dish. Miss Bevirt is taking good care of them.

Chick News

Wednesday

Our first day to see all seven chicks in our brooding box.

We named the three black chicks. Because we do not see any distinctive markings on them, they are currently named as a group.

Their names are Shadow, Pepper, and Smokey. Some children are also calling one of them Batman.

Thursday

Good Morning, Friends!

They make a mess with the food and water.

Everyone who wanted to hold a chick this morning had a chance.

Naming the Yellow Chicks

We named the yellowish colored chicks.

Their names are Buttercup, Cheeseball, Blondie, and Yellow/White Hairband.

Chicks on the Towel

We tried to get them to eat food from our hands.

Friday

They are moving and moving and pooping and pooping all the time.

Sometimes we used our hand to keep them on the towel. 

Another group of children took a turn holding the chicks.

They are so fun to have! 

On Monday we will see how much they grew over the weekend.
