What a Wonderful Information Filled Event!
Saws
Mr. Trinklein started our tour by showing us a number of saws.
This very tall saw was used long ago to cut down trees.
This is a circular saw.
He told us that saws have teeth.
Saws with big teeth work best when cutting soft things.
Saws with small teeth cut hard things.
Here he's using a saw with very small teeth to cut a brick.
Clamps
Mr. Trinklein uses clamps to hold wood together that has been glued.
Can you see the clamp?
Mallets
He uses mallets to protect wood from getting dented.
Measuring Tapes
We thought it was pretty amazing that he had so many measuring tapes on his window sill.
Planing Down the Wood
This piece of wood is too thick.
Putting the wood through the planer makes it thinner.
It's not as thick now!
Drilling
Here Mr. Trinklein uses his power drill to make a perfectly straight hole in the wood.
An Old Fashioned Drill
Sanders
Mr. Trinklein sometimes uses sandpaper, but he also uses many different types of sanders.
He demonstrated a couple of them for us.
It's so smooth after it's sanded!
The trip was very interesting!
It was great to be able to see and touch wood and tools.
Vacuum On! Vacuum Off!
In Mr. Trinklein's workshop most of the power tools are connected to a vacuum system. When he uses a saw, the sawdust is sucked up into the vacuum. This prevents sawdust from flying throughout the room. Whenever he used a tool connected to the system, he turned on the vacuum. Workshops are not quiet places!
