Hatch Day! Day 2

Hatch Day

When we arrived this morning, we discovered six chicks in the incubator. Five chicks hatched over night. We had three yellow chicks and three black chicks. Much of our morning was spent watching the chicks.

From 10:30 - 11:30 we watched and waited for the last chick to hatch. It finally did! So exciting! It's another yellow chick, so now we have seven chicks. The last two eggs didn't hatch.

Everyone is moved to the brooding box.

The chicks are all snug in their brooding box. They have paper, water with rocks so they don't get too much water, and a feather duster.

The Library Lady

She read three books to us - Quackers by Liz Wong, Don't Worry Bear by Greg Foley, and Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson.
After each book, the children had fun singing some action songs.

Hatch Day!

 Hatch Day

This Morning
Nine eggs.
Seven pipped.
Waiting.

Can you see the cracked egg?

While we were outside before lunch, this strong chick pushed its way out of the egg.
When he hatched, he moved all around the incubator moving the other eggs.

At three, we are still waiting for the other chicks. We can hear them peeping inside the egg, but they need more time.

This is what the children noticed about today's hatch day.
Only one chick has hatched.
The new chick's claw is ginormous.
The new chick is kind of fluffy.
The chicks cheep when they are starting to get out.
They peck holes to get out.
They peck at the air sac at their face.
They pop the air hole so they can get out.

Can't wait to see what the incubator looks like in the morning!

Another Rainy Day!

We were too busy to take many picture today.....

But we did ....
  • Attend chapel in the Commons. Miss Bethany talked about the seventh petition of the Lord's Prayer, "Lead us not into temptaion." She told us a story about a boy who was tempted to eat some chocolate chip cookies his mom told him not to eat. We know Jesus helps us say no when we are tempted. He also forgives when we make mistakes.
  • We lead this month's chapel song of the month, "Jesus Lives! Alleluia! Amen." Using our alleluia streamers we sang the wonderful news that Jesus is alive.
  • Enjoy creating with Legos.

  • Continue recording our week 3 bulb observations.

  • Complete all jelly bean math

  • Take pictures for our last self-portrait drawing. Next week the children will study their picture and draw themselves. Their drawings will be in their portfolio.
  • Talk about the life cycle of a chicken. Next week we are pretty sure we will have chicks!
  • "Max Out" our GoNoodle champ. We danced and moved to 50 songs!

Blue Skies

A Beautiful Morning

It was so wonderful to be outside! The sun felt so divine!
For the first time in what seems like a long time, fun shadows were on display.

The stepping stones each class made last Thursday are in our garden. The children loved running on them over and over again.

Jelly Bean Math

A few of Today's Sorters and Graphers
It is definitely hard to work and then eat!

Other Highlights

  • We continue to count the days until the chicks hatch. Only six more days to wait.
  • Today's Jesus story, Something Wonderful. This book introduced the story of Jesus appearing to the disciples in the room after He rose.
  • The final touches are being put on the children's Jesus books.

Celebrating the Days of Easter

Happy First Day of May!

Today's pattern block creation - one spiked, squishy ball

Jesus Time

We are singing, "Jesus Lives! Alleluia! Amen!" by Carol Greens as our Easter song. She also wrote a book about Easter entitled, God's Easter Plan. The butterfly in the story is trying to understand God's plan.

 Chick Report

After candling the eggs, it was evident that no chicks were growing in three of our eggs. Today we opened one of the eggs to see what it looked like inside. Before nap today, all the children watched a chick move inside the egg as it was candled.

In the other nine eggs it looks like chicks are developing. One more week and we will know which ones hatched. We are learning many new words about eggs, the life cycle of a chicken, and the hatching process.
