Jesus Lives! Alleluia! Amen!

The butterflies were painted by children in Mrs. Douglas' class and Mrs. Lohman's class.

Andrew Nelson, the Director of Family Life at Chapel of the Cross, led our chapel today. He read John 14:1-4. That verse says, "Do not let your hearts be troubled...My Father's house has many rooms...I go and prepare a place for you." He told us that Jesus is in heaven and He is preparing a new house for all of us. Our new house will be with Jesus and it will be wonderful.

Music Monday

We sang as we walked to the Music Room in the church.

We were great listeners as Mrs. Thoelke demonstrated percussion intruments.

She played a xylophone, demonstrated a rain stick, and hit the bong.

Then it was our turn. We tested three different percussion instruments - the vibraslap, sleigh bells, and a djembe drum.

Back in our room, these children enjoyed keeping the beat to the songs playing on our CD player.

Our Fifth Grade Buddies

We had a great time going to Mrs. Cornejo's fifth grade class. As part of Week of the Young Child, we made flowers together for a door decoration. 

Our finished project will hang outside their door next week.

 Outdoor Fun

The plants in our garden continue to grow. Today we did a little weeding as well as studying plant details using the binoculars.

We continue to learn how to build with the outdoor blocks.

Jesus is Alive!

This week we are learning about how Jesus' helpers found out he was alive. Today we learned that the women came to the tomb and an angel told them, "Do not be afraid. Jesus is alive."

We are learning our cheer, "The rock was rolled away! Hooray! Easter Day!" We even shared it with the fifth graders as we left the Commons after lunch.

Chick Eggs

It's day 3 of incubation. The baby chicks look like a small "c" now. They have a heart.

Egg Membrane

During snack time, Mrs. Lohman cracked open a hard boiled egg. She cracked it on the large end of the egg where the air sac is. Then, we noticed a piece of membrane. It looked kind of like a thin napkin.

At group time, 

Mrs. Lohman cracked open a raw egg.

We noticed the membrane clinging to the shell. Some children were able to touch it.

 Egg Calendar 

Many children drew and cut out a chick to use on the baby chick calendar. (More pictures coming soon.)

Morning Activities

Balancing plastic eggs on sticks was just one of the many new choices of activities today.

Chapel 

Mrs. Bernhardt, one of our first grade teachers, led chapel today.

She showed us an Easter lily. It's blossom looks like a trumpet, so we trumpeted the Good News that Jesus is alive. We shouted, "He is risen indeed! Alleluia!"

Our Chick Eggs

We read another section of our book, Hatching Chicks in Room 6, today.  We learned that when they first hatch out of the egg, chicks are very wet and not cute.

But they are really cute when their feathers dry.

Our knowledge of chicken eggs is growing.

The children know -  

the eggs need heat, moisture, and air to grow.

they needs lots of caring.

they grow really fast.

Only 19 more days to wait!

The first activty of our day was going outside to celebrate that the tomb is open!

With streamers in hand we sang, "Jesus lives! Alleluia! Amen!"

Then, we learned an Easter cheer. The refrain is "The rock was rolled away! Hooray! Easter Day!"

We sang our song of joy one more time!

The chicken eggs are here!

We started reading a wonderful book, Hatching Chicks in Room Six. We learned that if we would open one of our eggs, we would see a white dot or the embroyo. The embroyo is the start of the baby chick. We will be learning many other words as we wait for the chicks to be born in 21 days.

We thought we would have eight eggs. Instead we have twelve! We numbered them and put a circle on one side and an "x" on the other side. This will help when we turn the eggs.

Everyone was able to touch an egg or two. We told it to start growing.

The eggs are in the incubator.

Now we need to wait 21 days!

We also need to keep water in the pan, turn them, and monitor the temperature of the incubator.

Our butterfly painters hard at work. The butterflies will be used to decorate an Easter cross that will be in the hallway.

Bucket Aerobics

While we waited between egg hunts (we searched for eggs twice!), we practiced bucket aerobics with Mrs. Lohman.

The Tomb is Sealed

We gathered outside with the other classes.

We sang "Do you know who died for me?" and waves our black streamers.

The cloth we need to take to the tomb to remind us of the cloth in which Jesus was wrapped.
