The Creators and Designers

Parakeet News

Louie and Bluie have a new toy.
We read a book about birds today.
What features are unique to birds?

Jesus Time

Today we read the story of Noah and his family's rescue from the flood.

Following Directions

During storytime, we read Head to Toe by Eric Carle. This is a great book for following directions.
We decided we should create a list of directions for washing our hands.
Can you stretch like a cat?

Can you wiggle like a crocodile?

Noah's Ark

Jesus Time

Our Bible story this week is God's rescue plan for Noah and his family, usually called Noah and the Ark. Today Mrs. Lohman just told the story. It's a long story that will be retold throughout the week.

Parakeet News

On Friday when Mrs. Lohman was cleaning Louie and Bluie's house, it seemed they would be moe comfortable outside of their cage. So, they had a chance to explore our room.
The children loved watching the three minute video of their explorations.

Small Group Time

Seven children added drawings to the long frames in our bathroom; seven children drew a picture of something they did during choice time.

Who Will Help?

Chapel

Pastor Reitz read Who Will Help? and then talked about how Jesus wants us to help others.
This fits well with what we have been talking about during our class gatherings. We are talking about "No" things we do and "Yes" things. No things include hitting and pushing our friends. Yes things include taking care of our materials, listening, and sharing.

Fire Drill

For this fire drill Mrs. Lohman told the children we would leave the room when we heard the fire alarm. Everyone did a great job leaving when we heard the alarm. We'll have at least one more drill. This one will be a surprise for everyone.

Dots, Dots, and More Dots

Our Dot Scavenger Hunt

Two groups of seven went around our campus in search of dots.
We found sooooo many!

We used our clipboards and made tally marks to keep track.
Some children had so many tally marks they ran out of room on their paper!

So messy! So much fun!!

The Last Three School Days ...

Jesus Time

We have learned about God's beautiful creation.
Unfortunately, it isn't perfect anymore, because of sin.
On Monday and Tuesday, we've talked about how we can take care of God's beautiful world. We read Recycle by Gail Gibbons and talked about how some things we use can be reused or recycled like paper, glass, and aluminum cans.

Dots

We've also been reading the dot and Lots of Dots in anticipation of creating dots on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Imagination and Creativity

A Toaster Kingdom!

Letter Assessments

The children are beginning to share their current knowledge of letter names. This information is compared with the May assessment to see how much they have learned during the school year.

Lunch Time

We're having a hard time remembering our cleanup procedure after we eat our lunch. This is partly, because it's hard to hear Mrs. Lohman. On Tuesday before storytime, we thought of a couple hand motions Mrs. Lohman could use instead. One hand motion is for packing up lunch boxes; the other hand motion is for throwing trash away. Ask your children if they know the motion to watch for.

Parakeets

On Monday, they received two new toys from Mrs. Lohman's sister, Mrs. Braun. One was added to their cage. We haven't notice them playing on it yet

On Tuesday we notice them making lots of noise when we were making noise. What if we are quiet? So we tried it. Guess what!? They were quiet, too. So when we are quiet during naptime, they are quiet. They are definitely learning our routine.

What will we make for Bluie and Louie?

During our morning gathering, ...

we had an amazing conversation about what kind of toys we could make for Bluie and Louie.
Here's the general flow...
We've noticed they love to move around on the spiral rope.
It's kind of bouncy we think.
What if we put something bouncy on the bottom of their cage?
We could make a curvy, bouncy thing.
We think we should use our work bench for making parakeet toys.
Other things that are bouncy - rubberbands and trampolines.
Could we make some sort of trampoline?
Then, we were ready for choice time!

Choice Time

Mrs. Lohman found a trampoline for us to study.
We noticed the springs all around the rim.

Of course, everyone needed a chance to jump on it, too!

Other Action

Two at a time moving and dancing!

So, hot!

Many of us have been playing in the shade all week, making soup and stuff.

Jesus Time

Zippy, the puppet, came to visit again today. He told us his new house isn't so perfect anymore. He and his brother spilt grape juice on the carpet in his new room. He feels so disappointed. We talked about when Adam and Eve sinned and ruined God's beautiful world. That is very sad, too.
But, God still loved Adam and Eve and promised to send Jesus.
Tomorrow, we will find out how the rug in Zippy's house is doing.

Journals

The children chose their journal today.
We will use it to record special days and also choice time memories.
They will bring them home in May.
