Pumpkin Baking and Turkeys

Fall is Here! And I Love It!
Our sensory table items

Five Little Leaves
Five little leaves in the tall, tall tree
As bright and pretty as they can be.
Along came the wind blowing all around
And one bright leaf fell to the ground.

Pie Pumpkins for Pumpkin Puree

We are going to use the pumpkin puree to make our own pumpkin pie.
We have three pie pumpkins. Before we cut them open, we described what they look like on the outside. They are "bumpy and smooth. One has scrapes on it. One is taller. They are all different."
As they described them, they remembered a couple of the pumpkin books we have read this fall. When Mrs. Lohman was cutting them with a sharp knife, we heard a cracking sound. They were very hard. After they were cut in half, one child exclaimed, "There were three; now there are six." Some children enjoyed smelling them; others did not. The pumpkins now "looked like a bowl." The inside looked "like an apple." We even noticed the seeds are shaped like spoons.

The hard work of scooping the seeds and goo.

The pumpkins are ready to bake during naptime.

After nap, we compared the pumpkins. Now they are "squishy." The inside looks like a cup and the cooked pumpkin looks "like spaghetti."

After some time in the food processor, the pumpkin puree is ready to be put in a pumpkin pie.

Their creations are so much better!
