Geodes and Pop Rocks

Morning Meeting
The most important task we had for this morning was changing the calendar to October.
We added many special events. Wow! It's a busy one!

Outside Time
Today is the first Monday of the month
which meant siren testing at 9:00 a.m.
Some of the children did not like that sound very much,
so they covered their ears.

What a perfect day to run and play with friends!

A Game of Hide and Seek

Group Time

Breaking Open a Geode
First, we described the geode before it was broken open. It was dusty, felt sandy, pokey, and bumpy.
Mr. Marolf then used his strong arm to break open the geode for us.
We looked carefully at the pieces. We noticed the inside was sparkly, shiny, pretty, and spikey. We also noticed how it had crumbled.

 Experimenting with Pop Rocks
Today ten children joined Mrs. Lohman on the rug for an experiment.
We tested what would happen when pop rocks were added to various materials.
We tested them in water; corn syrup; oil; baking soda and vinegar; ooblick; and slime.

We used our senses to observe what was happening.

After testing the pop rocks with the materials, some children tested them in their mouths. This felt tickly and tasted good.

Other rock activity for today ...

And other explorations

Jesus Time
Today we heard the story of Joseph and His Amazing Coat.
We learned that Joseph's brothers were really angry at him. We also learned that even though they did something really mean, God had a plan and still showed His love to them.
